If only all building projects went as well as the 2012 Olympic venue! It’s on schedule, on budget and the excitement is hotting up.

Express Baggages and our sister company Minimoves expect to be in high demand over the three week Olympic extravaganza, as well as for several weeks either side of the event. Why? Because we’ll be busy transferring excess baggage and arranging mini-moves for people and organisations from various key locations across Europe and the UK.

Express Baggages - Transferring excess baggage for 2012

Our superb Express Baggages service takes the pressure off Olympics travellers whether you’re a competitor or spectator, organiser, corporate body, supplier, or sporting organisation.

We’ll fast-forward your luggage for you, door to door, anywhere within the metropolitan areas of Paris, Brussels or London. So you can relax and enjoy the journey in comfort.

You’ll avoid having to man-handle heavy bags, cases and equipment through airports and railway stations. Instead you’ll sail through, stress free, while we take the strain. Your excess baggage will be waiting for you at your destination address, safe and sound.

Minimoves - Moving equipment, luggage, supplies and belongings for 2012

Our popular Minimoves service delivers reliable, quick, secure small scale removals. We pick up and deliver door to door between Paris, London, Brussels and out into the rest of Europe. While you take the train, drive, head for the ferries or fly over to the 2012 Olympics, we can transfer up to 12/24 cubic metres of belongings or equipment for you. That’s around 80/160 cartons of stuff.

When you don’t need a massive pantechnicon and a standard van’s just too small, Minimoves is the perfect good value solution.

Mad but true… According to New Scientist (14 March 2009) the Tetris algorithm is helping mathematicians research ways of packaging goods into fewer, smaller spaces!

Obviously this’ll eventually be a great help to delivery firms like us who are always interested in making the most of space. And it’ll benefit our customers too. But fitting objects into the smallest amount of space is such a complicated mathematical problem that researchers haven’t yet managed to figure out the single best way to pack more than twenty-ish objects at one time.

Imagine that. We’ve landed on the moon and sent machines to Mars but we still can’t calculate optimum packing strategies. Isn’t maths weird.

“We now have an algorithm which is able to solve packing problems with 3D goods of different sizes in general,” says Joannes Schneider, who heads the research team at the University of Mainz. Schneider is also taking the order in which objects are packed into account. “For example, the driver of a parcel delivery service must not unload half of his truck in order to get to the parcel which he should deliver to the next customer,” he says.

We’re not mathematicians, by any means, and we don’t play a great deal of Tetris. But we’re well acquainted with how tricky it can be to pack a load of different shaped and sized things into a restricted space. That’s our job. You’d be amazed how much stuff we can fit into our removals vehicles, with their tardis-like properties. Perhaps we could teach the scientists a thing or two?!
